Why Homeowners Choose Solar
Solar energy is one of the smartest investments UK homeowners can make — lower bills, cleaner energy, and independence that pays for itself.
£
Lower Energy Bills
Generate your own electricity and dramatically reduce what you pay every month.
☀
Clean Renewable Energy
Reduce your carbon footprint with solar power from your own roof.
⚡
Energy Independence
Protect yourself from rising energy prices by producing your own power.
▭
Battery Storage
Store excess energy and use it when you need it most — evenings, nights, and peak hours.
Yes — solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunshine. They produce less on overcast days than in full sun, but they still work. The UK gets enough daylight year-round for solar to be a worthwhile investment for most homeowners.
In most cases, no. Solar panel installations on homes are usually covered by permitted development rights, meaning no planning application is required. There are exceptions — listed buildings, conservation areas, and some flat roof setups — and we'll flag any concerns during your assessment.
Any surplus electricity your panels generate can be exported back to the grid. Through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), energy suppliers pay you for every unit you export. With a battery added, you can store that surplus yourself and use it in the evening instead — often the better option.
Modern solar panels are built to last. Most carry a 25–30 year performance warranty and will continue generating beyond that. Our installation partner uses Tier 1 components, and the Hometree Solar Plan covers repairs and replacements throughout the plan term.
Very little. Panels are designed to be low maintenance — rain does most of the cleaning naturally. An occasional check and rinse is all most systems need. The Hometree Solar Plan includes monitoring and maintenance support, so if anything does need attention, it's covered.
Most homes with a reasonably pitched roof facing south, south-east, or south-west are suitable. Heavy shading from trees or neighbouring buildings can reduce output, but doesn't always rule it out. The best way to find out is to fill in our short form — we'll confirm suitability before anyone visits.
